Ryuoen Chaho – Hatsu Mukashi Matcha

Founded in 1875  Ryuoen Chaho  is one of Kyoto’s quiet but deeply respected tea houses. This long established Japanese tea specialist is renowned for supplying matcha to the head families of the San Senke tea schools. Unlike more commercial tea brands, Ryuoen Chaho has preserved a traditional, almost unchanged way of selling tea for over a century, a rare example of continuity in Japanese craftsmanship.

🌿 A Tea Shop Trusted by Tea Masters

What makes Ryuoen truly special is its connection to the heart of Japanese tea culture:

• Their matcha is officially recognised and used by the three major tea ceremony schools (Urasenke, Omotesenke, Mushanokoji-senke).
• This level of recognition means their tea meets the highest standards for ceremonial use, not just everyday drinking

Hatsu Mukashi is a refined ceremonial matcha with rich umami, mellow sweetness and delicate fresh green notes. Smooth and well balanced, it finishes cleanly with only a gentle hint of bitterness.
